Vupen broke Google’s Sandbox!
by be3n on May.09, 2011, under Internet, Software, technology, Web
After 3 straight years of pwn2own invincibility, someone finally bested all of chrome’s mighty security to downloaded and run code. French security research firm @vupen used two exploits to bypass ASLR, DEP, and leave the sandbox to run a calculator (in this demo). The calculator might be innocuous, but method is quite significant. Impressive work by the good guys.

Nothing more for sony to do but cry. After team fail0verflow’s diligent efforts and geohot’s typical rush to publish something he’d probably been sitting on for months. 27c3 brought news of sony’s epic fail and people almost forgot what geohot had done months earlier. This will be an exciting year. i wonder what sony’s next move will be? i’ll keep you updated.

I slapped together a possibly useful php wrapper for highly useful open source tools. Now you can strip the passwords from your pdfs with only a web browser. Don’t thank me, thank the guys over at mupdf or maybe my sister for needing my help with pdfs. check it out: http://be3n.com/toybox/breakpdf/
FYI, it only helps with DRM, not encryption. enjoy.

Apple’s iOS 4.2 update comes with little announcement or fanfare. On the heels of this, they are expected to stop signing 4.1 blobs very shortly (if not already). The untethered jailbreak for 4.2 will most likely require a signed 4.1 blob. Because of this, more then anything, i’ve done a bit of my holiday shopping early. picking anything that will want to be untethered and awesome in time for the holidays. so if you are tired of hearing it form me, for the sake of pete, back up your blobs!

read about the bug here. It is doubtful that there will be any new jailbreaks until 4.2.

Apple, announced great new features for OS X! Like facetime and app store (maybe we’ll even get some real package management). Showed off iLife 11 and Mac OS 10.7 Tiger! Many features and software available Today! Tiger is slated for summer of 2011, but facetime beta and iLife 11 are available already. Lastly, new macbook air. Thinner and more solid then every! Also, amazing battery life. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on it.
